The Purpose of Biohacking: Finding Balance in Health
Welcome back to part four of our series on the purpose of biohacking. Contrary to what some might think, the goal isn’t to live forever but to strike a balance between reasonable self-care and an unhealthy obsession with health.
Understanding Our Mortality
One of the most important things to realize is that no matter how fit we become, we all face the inevitability of aging and death. As we strive to improve our health, it’s crucial to accept that we will eventually break down. All the workouts, diets, and supplements in the world cannot prevent the natural decline of our bodies.
As a Christian, I find comfort in biblical reminders about our transience. Verses such as 2 Corinthians 4:16 emphasize that “outwardly we are wasting away,” while Psalm 103 reminds us that our lives resemble “grass” that flourishes only briefly before fading away. These insights help frame my approach to health and wellness.
A Balanced Approach to Health
My focus is not on achieving the ideal physique or extending life indefinitely. Instead, it centers on living as healthily as possible until the end of my days. I envision a fulfilling life where I can engage in activities like skiing in the Alps or spending quality time with family, free from the burdens of poor health.
We should regard our bodies as vessels provided by God to fulfill our purpose in life. Poor health can hinder our ability to be productive and active in our families and communities. Thus, treating our bodies with care is essential.
Self-Care: A Practical Approach
Self-care doesn’t have to be overwhelming. For those with busy lives, incorporating 45 to 60 minutes of self-care daily can be effective. This can include basic physical activity, exercise, and mindful eating habits.
As someone working in the fitness industry, I spend several hours a day on self-care, which allows me to experiment with various health protocols. However, even those with less time can find a healthy balance with some planning.
Looking Ahead
In upcoming videos, I will introduce a foundational concept often overlooked in the health and fitness industry, which will help you maintain your health span and lifespan in a balanced manner. I encourage you to share your thoughts and experiences regarding your own fitness and health motivations in the comments.
Conclusion
In summary, the pursuit of health and longevity should be rooted in reason and balance, rather than obsession. By treating our bodies with care and focusing on meaningful living, we can lead fulfilling lives while also maximizing our potential.
