Dr. David Sinclair
Professor of Genetics, Harvard Medical School
Dr. David A. Sinclair is an Australian-American biologist and professor of genetics at Harvard Medical School, best known for his pioneering research on aging and epigenetics. He serves as co-director of the Paul F. Glenn Center for Biology of Aging Research at Harvard, where he explores the molecular causes of aging and ways to slow or reverse its effects. Born on June 26, 1969, in Sydney, Australia, Sinclair earned his Ph.D. in molecular genetics from the University of New South Wales in 1995. He completed postdoctoral research at MIT under Dr. Leonard Guarente, where he began studying sirtuins—proteins that play a key role in cellular health and longevity. Dr. Sinclair’s work has helped advance our understanding of NAD+ metabolism, sirtuins, and epigenetic changes that contribute to aging. His research has shown that aging is a treatable condition, potentially reversible with targeted interventions. He has co-founded several biotechnology companies, including Sirtris Pharmaceuticals and MetroBiotech, aimed at developing therapies that promote longevity and combat age-related diseases. He also co-founded and serves as co-chief editor of the scientific journal Aging. Dr. Sinclair is the author of the bestselling book Lifespan: Why We Age—and Why We Don’t Have To, in which he discusses the science of aging and offers practical longevity advice. He also hosts the podcast Lifespan with Dr. David Sinclair, where he shares insights from his lab and interviews with leading researchers. In recognition of his contributions to science and medicine, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2018.
